Partners John Thompson and Paul Thrift founded Thompson Thrift in 1986. Since then, they have developed Thompson Thrift into a highly respected full-service, integrated real estate development and construction company. During its early days, the company was actively engaged in multifamily development and construction. Building on a foundation of quality, service and integrity, Thompson Thrift soon expanded its reach into commercial, retail and mixed-use developments.

In 2008, Thompson Thrift strategically determined to return to its roots in multifamily development and bring together the resources necessary to become a premier multifamily developer. As a result, Thompson Thrift formed Watermark Residential and, in the process, assembled a highly experienced and dedicated team focused on achieving this goal. Combining the expertise of the Watermark team and the history, culture, and resources of Thompson Thrift has advanced Watermark Residential toward a leadership position in the industry.
